Crater Lake Sky Cam Project

The images above have been recorded at Crater Lake (Oregon) from 11/25/2009 to 12/12/2009 at various times of day.  The second image is a compilation of color blocks of the sky, simplified into one shade.  The next part of this project is to create a series of long, clear "viewing windows" which I will plant along the snowy lakeside.  The windows will have a strip of color that will match and blend in with the sky at a specific time of day.  More about the lake: http://www.nps.gov/crla/index.htm

Update: Here is my new loom.  She needs a good soap down and a little bit of greasing.  Its a compact and simple 4 harness it weighs in at about 75 lbs and 36 inches in girth.
I have purchased tickets to Grand Rapids, MI.  From GR  I will go to Saugatuck to take a course at Ox-Bow (ox-bow.org)  right off of Lake Michigan on the blue star highway.  The course includes a series of lectures on historical and contemporary ideas of the portrayal of nature in art.  I will be keeping notes and will begin posting in (www.craftcreativitydesign.org/research/windgate2009.php) soon.

In other news: My work will be exhibited at the Naoussa Gallery (www.naoussagallery.com) in Tyringham, MA.

Yesterday, May 3rd, folk pioneer Pete Seeger turned 90 years old.  He is an inspirational champion of peace, civil rights and the environment.  He has been at the forefront of the labor movement, the struggle for Civil Rights, the peace and anti-war movements, and the fight for a clean world. He has been a beacon for hope for millions of people all over the world. He was once blacklisted from national television for being unafraid to voice his opinions, he was given the nation's highest artistic honors at the Kennedy Center in December 1994. Not to mention his invention of the long neck banjo and production of "Rainbow Quest" , a talk-show style series that brought musicians together in a loosely organized jam/ interview.
This photo was taken in 1973 at a Clearwater pumpkin festival.  Clearwater was Seeger's environmental group to clean out the Hudson.

"The worst thing that can happen to you is to cut yourself loose from people. And the best thing is to sort of vaccinate yourself right into the bloodstreams of the people. . . to feel that you know the best and the worst of folks that you see everywhere, and never to feel weak, or lost, or even lonesome anywhere. . .There is just one thing that can cut you from the people and that is any brand or style of greed. . .There is just one way to save yourself, and that's to get together and work and fight for everybody."
